Provenance: Lt. T. Naughton, 1945, and thence by descent; Private collection.

U-236 surrendered to the Royal Navy at Eriboll on 11th May, 1945. These binoculars were liberated by Lt T. Naughton who is marked with an 'X' on the accompanying photograph, and who is aboard the previously-surrendered U-826, now flying the White Ensign. Naughton's father served in the RN in World War I and liberated the binoculars forming lot 98.
