A PAIR OF GERMAN U-BOAT BINOCULARS
stamped on the back plates for Karl-Heizon / 20 x 60 DEUTCHLAND UNTERSEEBOOT, separate eye-piece focussing, aluminium tubes with black crackle finish
9½in. (24cm.) high
Provenance: Allegedly "liberated" from a U-Boat officer prior to the submarine being scuttled.
Unmarked with the usual military stamps, it is thought this pair of binoculars may be rare examples from the brief period after World War One when, desperate to raise money, the peacetime German submarine fleet offered a civilian passenger/cargo service to the United States.
Estimated at £400 - £600
