A FINE AND DETAILED BUILDER'S MODEL FOR THE S.S. VEENDYK, BUILT BY THE SUNDERLAND SHIP BUILDING CO. FOR THE HOLLAND/AMERICA LINE
the laminated and carved hull with lined boxwood decking, complete with gold-plated fittings, white painted masts with derricks, central superstructure with wheelhouse with binnacle over and awning stanchions, fitted lifeboats in davits, stayed funnel, emergency helm haft, mounted on four turned gilt columns on display base with ivorine builder's plates and Plexiglas cover (restoration, base and cover later). Overall measurements -- 20¾ x 56 x 9¼in. (53 x 142.3 x 23.5cm.)

Originally called Veendijk, her name was updated to Veendyk in the 1940s. Built in 1914 for the Holland America Line, the tanker S.S. Veendyk, was built by the Sunderland Shipbuilding Co. in England. In 1918 she was seized for service by the United States Navy and served for a year as ship 2515 as an Overseas Transport Service. Returning to her usual work for the Holland American Line in Rotterdam in September 1919, she was sold in 1932 for scrap.
