A RARE PAPER AND WOOD DIORAMA FOR A ROYAL NAVY 50-GUN SHIP, CIRCA 1763
depicted running before the wind with her main sail being reefed, the hull set within pleated paper sea, with open gun ports and guns, chain plates with deadeyes, standing and running rigging, detailed stern monogrammed GRIII, and bow decoration, crew and officer profiles depicted about their business, with two black musicians depicted on the poop deck, with painted wooden sky background, signed and dated on the lower right edge A. Walker Invt. et FECIT. 1763. contained within wooden case for wall hanging. Overall measurements -- 19½ x 23½in. (49.5 x 59.5cm.)

Paper diorama models of this quality, age and condition are exceptionally rare. Only one other example is known of to date, which resides in a private collection.

Condition Report
Overall condition remains remarkably original, and model and rigging intact overall. Some time discolouration to the sails and spotting to the painted backdrop. The case front may be a later replacement. The glass has a crack in the top right-hand corner.
