This model marked a radical change in microscope design and is the forerunner of modern construction. All the focussing controls were brought down below the stage level so that they fell readily to hand with the arms resting on the bench.

The focussing controls moved the entire limb giving the stand a massive solidity and smoothness. It is interesting that in contrast to the overwhelming success of the design Zeiss were initially nervous about introducing it in the early 1930s.

This example is signed Carl Zeiss Jena and has serial no 259528. Serial numbers in this range where in use in 1934.
