It is with utmost concern that we inform the Public, that the celebrated circumnavigator Capt. Cook, and four of his people, were killed by the inhabitants of the new-discovered island in the South Seas, in 22 N.L. and 200 E.L. from Greenwich… An account of the events surrounding the death of Cook, his character and achievements, written from letters received from Captain Clarke, (4in. of column space) all in a complete and genuine issue of "The London Chronicle" dated January 8th, 1780; also From the date of Captain Clarke's account from Kamskatka of the death of Captain Cook, and of his intention to pursue his route for the discovery of the North-West passage, we must with regret conclude that he failed in the attempt… The account follows on to describe the return voyage, as well as particulars of Captain Cook's marriage to his goddaughter, and the effects of his death on his family and friends (4in. of column space) all in a complete and genuine issue of The Kentish Gazette dated January 19th, 1780.
